New weekly street food market set to launch at Finzels Reach

Posted on March 14, 2017

A new weekly street food market is coming to the heart of Bristol city centre this spring.

Finzels Reach Market will take place at the new city quarter being created on the site of the former Courage Brewery next to Bristol Bridge.

Visitors can expect locally produced food from some of the South West’s most exciting street food traders, serving up lunchtime eats including Cantonese dumplings, handmade gourmet pies, Thai curry, wood fired pizza, brownies, falafel wraps and much more.  To ensure there is lots of choice and variety, there will be guest stalls every week, keeping things fresh and seasonal.

The new venture is a collaboration between Finzels Reach developers Cubex and CASUS Events, who will run the market.

Bristol-based CASUS has a strong reputation for bringing together the best street food traders over a lunchtime period, having set up the highly successful weekly Temple Quay market four years ago.

The new market will be located in Old Temple Street, a pedestrian-only road which is accessed from Counterslip or Bath Street, and connects to Temple Cross – the square at the heart of the Finzels Reach site.

It will launch on Friday 5 May from 12pm – 2pm, with some live music to create a celebratory atmosphere.

David Pyne, co-director of CASUS Events said: “Bristol has one of the best street food scenes in the country and there’s a huge appetite in the city for authentic and adventurous food here. There has been a fantastic reaction from traders, who can see that Finzels Reach is a great location for a food market.  We’ve been inundated with applications, demonstrating what superb potential this has to become a really successful market.”

With the new bridge at Finzels Reach set to open in early April, the market will help encourage people to venture into and enjoy this new area of the city, which has effectively been closed off to the public for over 150 years, as well as providing a new attraction for the hundreds of people who already live or work there.

Gavin Bridge, director of developers Cubex, explained: “This is an exciting initiative for Finzels Reach and part of our commitment to building a balanced community in this new quarter of the city. We’ve invested in installing high quality car-free routes and spaces through the development and the market will provide a focus to bring people together each week, as well as adding a new attraction to Bristol’s vibrant foodie scene.”

As the development completes over the next few years, with the building of more offices and homes, plus the opening of cafes, shops, restaurants, bars and a micro-brewery, there is potential for other street markets and events to take place at Finzels Reach.

Sophie Bowden, co-director of CASUS Events added: “We know how successful street food markets can be when in the right location and are really looking forward to being part of this attractive and exciting new quarter of Bristol. We’re sure that the residents of the offices and flats at Finzels Reach will enjoy the high quality food that will be on offer on Fridays, and look forward to welcoming people from Castle Park and the wider area.”
